Trauma is not only remembered in words.
It is carried in the nervous system, repeated in relationships, and expressed through the protective patterns people live with every day.

In Trauma Beyond the Story, two of the most trusted voices in trauma treatment—Frank Anderson, MD and Janina Fisher, PhD—come together for a rare, integrative training on how to work with trauma beyond narrative alone.

This workshop helps participants understand how trauma continues to shape the present through the body, emotions, beliefs, and survival responses—and how healing begins when these responses are met with clarity, compassion, and skill.

Blending relational neuroscience, somatic understanding, and trauma-informed clinical insight, Frank and Janina offer a practical framework for helping people move beyond shame, loosen the grip of survival adaptations, and build a more grounded relationship with themselves and their lived experience.

Whether you are a clinician looking to deepen your trauma treatment skills or someone seeking a more compassionate understanding of trauma’s lasting impact, this training offers a powerful and practical path forward.

In this workshop,
you’ll learn how to:

Understand trauma-related behaviors as adaptive survival responses rather than pathology

Recognize nervous system cues and protective responses in real time

Help separate past trauma from present identity

Reduce shame and increase compassion in the healing process

Support greater regulation, internal coherence, and relational safety

Offer trauma treatment that goes beyond retelling the story and toward meaningful integration

Whether you’re a clinician trained in somatic therapy, EMDR, parts work, or traditional talk therapy, or someone who has experienced trauma, this course will expand your integrative skillset and deepen your capacity to support lasting transformation.

Why this training matters

Many trauma survivors can talk about what happened and still feel trapped by its effects. That is because trauma does not live only in memory—it lives in the body, in expectations, in emotional reactions, and in deeply embedded protective strategies.

This training helps illuminate what so often gets missed: the living legacy of trauma.

With their combined wisdom and distinctly complementary approaches, Frank Anderson and Janina Fisher help participants understand how to work with the ongoing imprint of trauma in a way that is compassionate, clinically grounded, and deeply human.

This is not simply a workshop about insight. It is a workshop about how healing happens when people learn to relate differently to the parts of themselves still organized around survival.

Sessions

Session 1 - Reframing Trauma: From Narrative to Nervous System

In this opening session, Frank and Janina explore how trauma disrupts integration, dysregulates the nervous system, and creates responses that are often misunderstood in therapy and everyday life. You’ll learn how to see symptoms and patterns through a more compassionate, trauma-informed lens—and how to recognize the intelligence of survival.

Session 2 – Toward Integration: Relating to, Not Reacting From, Trauma’s Legacy

The second session focuses on helping people create more space from survival responses so they are no longer living from trauma as identity. Frank and Janina explore approaches that reduce shame, increase regulation, support relational safety, and open the door to deeper healing and integration.
